Does opening the fridge overwhelm you? Too much stuff, hard to find things, etc. whatever it may be these 3 tips will help you keep a clean and organized fridge all year long!
Clean Out the Grime
First things first, you gotta get out the grime! This may not be the fun part but it is SO important and will all be worth it in the end. I always thought my husband and I were pretty clean people. I mean I never felt like we really spilt things in the fridge so it was shocking to me when I pulled out everything in my fridge and saw tons of crusted-up dry food and liquids! Who knows how long they've been there.
Now, I do not have kids yet, but I can only imagine what it will look like here in a couple years! That grime can creep where you can't see it, and sometimes it gets crusted on there HARD CORE.
Here is my process for cleaning out the grime!
Remove everything from fridge.
Remove trays and drawers as well. Dump them in the sink.
Once your fridge is down to nothing you may see something caked on there-kinda like this: (picture)
Clean that stuff out!
Now, let me save you some hassle. I have sat scrubbing for the longest time trying to get dried up liquids (salsa, syrup, etc.) off of there and nothing would come off! For the best/quickest results, fill a jar with hot water and 1 C of vinegar.

Soak an old cleaning rag in there for a few minutes and then place it on top of the spill you want to clean. BOOM- there you have it Mama, the stain comes off instantly.
Plus you are using all natural ingredients so you can earn some brownie points for that too.
5. I like to run a new wet rag over everything after to get rid of the vinegar. Sometimes it can smell so if you need to a little bowl of baking soda sitting in there for a day or two will soak it all up.
INVEST in some refrigerator organization containers!
Trust me, these are so worth the money. In order to truly keep your fridge organized for more than a day after you clean it you will want to pick out some good containers.
For the longest time I had no desire to spend money on that. I am sort of a penny pincher and so I figured I would just organize the fridge with what I had and throw the miscellaneous things around wherever. But, you know what I am talking about. The day after you go grocery shopping things start getting messy. There is no order and people put things back however they want... am I right?
The day I bought organization containers my life was CHANGED. And yours will too, I promise.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Mother Hen's Wooden Egg Tray - Amazon
Half Gallon Glass Milk Jar - Amazon
There are so many options out there, and they don't have to break the bank! Decide what is best for you, whether it is cheapest, best reviews, or most aesthetically pleasing.
Clean the Fridge OFTEN
Now, don't get overwhelmed sister, you don't need to be deep cleaning that fridge once a week, however a wipe down at least every week is necessary if you want to keep your fridge looking nice. It may seem hard to find the time to do so, but plan it around a time when you are already over there. For example, when you do your weekly kitchen cleaning do a quick run-through of the fridge as well. I have found that right after grocery shopping works best for me. Before I put the new things in I rearrange things, throwing out old leftovers, rotten fruits, you know what I mean. This gives space for everything else.
Every 3 months, or change of season take time to deep clean that fridge and take everything out. If you are doing a quick wipe through each week and a deep clean every season your fridge will stay nice ALL YEAR LONG.
